Transforming our Community
I wanted to take a minute to personally welcome you to Olivet this morning! We’ve been praying that God would bring to this place people after His own heart: worshippers who–having offered themselves in love to God and to others all week long–now draw near to draw strength from the Lord and from each other! May you experience the presence of God through our worship together this morning!
Today we’re beginning a new worship series based on Jesus’ words FOLLOW ME. Six times in the gospel of Matthew Jesus spoke those words, and six times He rocked our world, challenging us to step outside our North American Churchianity to experience biblical Christianity. The call to follow Jesus has never been about praying a certain prayer, believing a certain set of doctrines or sitting in a pew on Sunday mornings. Yet churches today are filled with people who seem content to settle for a casual association with Christ and nominal adherence to His commands. The call to follow Jesus is a summons to lose and find our lives even as we pursue Him. To live as a disciple of Christ is to be transformed from the inside out and empowered–in whatever we do–to make fully-devoted disciples from every nation, tribe, language and people-group.
I want to invite you to join us over these next eight weeks as we explore the call of Christ in our lives today. I have to warn you! You cannot follow Christ and remain the same. But I can also promise you that you will experience no greater peace, no greater joy, no greater sense of fulfillment and purpose–no greater adventure than when you respond to His invitation to FOLLOW ME.
