More. Like Jesus.

We’re beginning a new worship series based on the books of 1 and 2 Peter. We’ve spent the last ten weeks looking at the life of Jesus through the eyes of Simon Peter. You might recall that Jesus’ first and very last words to Peter in the Gospel of John were "Follow Me!" In other words, following Jesus is not a class you take or a season in your life–it’s a lifetime commitment of learning and living into your identity in Christ!

Today we fast forward 30 years in Peter’s life to a time when he was probably living in Rome and writing to Christ followers scattered all around the Mediterranean Sea. Christ had invited him to re-engage–to turn his attention from himself to the precious flock that Jesus had set aside for him. Christ had even reaffirmed for him that he would be able to love again with the sacrificial love of God and that he would willingly give his life for the Kingdom of God. Now, 30 years later, Peter knows that the end of his life is near and gives the Church of Jesus Christ–and you and me–key insights into how to live in a world that is not your home.

We’ll be studying together portions of 1 and 2 Peter over the coming weeks, but I wanted to invite you to also do a character study with me on the side. Peter has gained amazing perspective on how to move from your first moments of faith to that place where you live only for His kingdom. I’d like you to memorize 2 Peter 1:5-8! Each week I’ll invite you to dig a little deeper into one of the virtues that will bless not only you, but generations who will see them and reproduce them in their lives because of your example. You can prepare for worship today by reading 1 Peter 1:1-2 and 2:9-12!
